J. S. Bosley, an old and respected citizen of Madison and Dallas counties, and for the past eight years a resident of Dexter, died at his home here Monday, March 10, after an illness of about ten days duration of paralysis. He had not been enjoying good health for several months past, but he was too gritty to give up and kept busying himself with work until his last illness. His age was 81 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Jacob Springer Bosley was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, November 30, 1831, near which place he grew to manhood and where he was united in marriage to Mary M. Smith on Sept. 3, 1852. In the fall of 1854 they removed to Iowa, settling near Bonaparte, Van Buren county. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Edith K. Eddy of Marengo, Ia., M.S. of Earlham, Ia., J. E. of Ladora, Ia., and Cora of Dexter, who together with the widow, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren survive him.

In the spring of 1891 they settled on the home farm in Madison county where they resided until their removal to Dexter a little over 8 years ago.

The deceased was a consistent Christian, having united with the Baptist church in Bonaparte, Iowa, and later became identified with the Early Chapel church of Christ of Madison county to which he remained faithful until the end. He was a man of unfailing good humor, a charitable disposition, good neighbor, a kind and loving father and husband and entered into his last long rest in response to the summons of One who said “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. H. O. Bethel, pastor of the church. Rev. H. P. Dyer assisted and as an old friend of the family, spoke of the deceased as one of the stalwart pioneers of the early day.

Rev. Herman Schmidt, pastor of the Evan. Lutheran church, a close friend and neighbor of Mr. Bosley, offered a prayer at the home, and spoke a few consoling words of encouragement to the family before the hour of the funeral services.
