Arthur T. Black, son of Alexander and Marian Black, was born at Tarentum, Pa., June 1, 1859, and departed this life at his home in Dexter, Iowa, May 22, 1934, aged 74 years 11 months and 21 days.

At the age of 24 years he left his home in Pennsylvania and after traveling over the middle west decided to settle down in Iowa.

In the same year, 1883, he was united in marriage to Hattie Wood. To this union four children were born: Clyde of Ames, Iowa; Agnes Mills of Syracuse, New York; Amy Armstrong of Dexter, Iowa, and Francis of Indianola, Iowa. These four children with their mother survive, also six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Four sisters also survive, Mrs. Murnye Coleman and Mrs. Lizzie Varner of Alliance, Ohio, Mrs. Mary White of Youngstown, Ohio and Mrs. Agnes Hunter of Charlerio, Penn.

The deceased, with his wife, lived first on farms west of Redfield, Ia. In 1898, he with his family removed to Dexter, Iowa, where he lived until 1917 when he moved to Indianola returning in 1932 to live in Dexter.

Arthur Black was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal church. During these years he has served in various capacities in the official life of his church and has seen all of his family identified with activities in the church. As citizen, friend, neighbor and father he has left a record which may well be prized by his sons and daughters. Many friends will desire to comfort the surviving wife and children in the loss of a loving husband and father.
