John Baldwin, 69 Taken By Death

Funeral services for John Baldwin, 69, of Dexter were held at the Presbyterian Church, there on Thursday. Mr. Baldwin was hospitalized only a few days prior to his death, but had been in ill health for some time.

John Baldwin achieved wide respect in town and county circles for his public service. At present he was serving his 14th year on the Dexter council. A nature lover and a conservationist, he was very interested in his work as a member of the Dallas County Conservation Board, of which he was a charter member.

He was a member of the American Rifle Association, Mt. Tabor Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, American Legion and active in the Democratic party. He served six months in the armed forces during World War II. Mr. Baldwin was last employed as a carpenter by the Dexter Lumber Co.

He was a member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church, teaching a Sunday School class. He was well read in church doctrine, as in all matters.

John Baldwin is survived by his wife, Ruth, two sons, John of Hanover Park, Ill. and Jerry of Waukegan, Ill., and a brother, Joe of Mission, Kan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, who died in childbirth, in 1935.

John Baldwin was the son of Joseph and Anna McCauley Baldwin, born near Hasty, Colo., April 14, 1901. The family moved to Humbolt, Kan., where his father ran a hardware store, and later moved to the Dexter area. He was married to Dorothy Atwood of Fairfield, Iowa, Aug. 14, 1934. Subsequently he was married to Ruth James of Adel Oct. 18, 1963.
