Dexter—A service for Dwight Melvin Barr, 74, of Dexter was held Dec. 24, 1982 at the Dexter United Methodist Church with burial in the Dexter Cemetery. Mr. Barr died Dec. 22.

He was born Dec. 2, 1908 to Dewey Melvin Barr and Myrtle Thomas on a farm near Menlo. He attended school at Penn number 3 and at Dexter High School.

Mr. Barr married Edna Smith in Perry on June 24, 1929. The couple had five children.

He spent his life farming in the Dexter and Earlham areas. In January, 1970 he suffered a stroke at his home south of Dexter. In April 1973, the couple moved to a new home in Dexter.

Mr. Barr had been hospitalized in October, 1981 and had been unable to live at home for long periods. He had lived at a care center in Stuart since last July.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Meriam Jurgensen of Earlham and Darlene O’Brien of Stuart; three sons, Robert of Council Bluffs, Darrel of Des Moines and Darwin of Earlham; a sister Helen Hibbs of Earlham, three brothers, Hoyt of Redfield, Max of Stuart and Duane of Dexter; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
