Well Known Adel Woman Is Called

Mrs. Al Armstrong Passes Suddenly—Stricken With Pneumonia After Illness

The community was saddened Friday when it learned of the sudden death of Mrs. Al Armstrong of Adel, a former resident of Dexter and lifelong resident of the county.

Mrs. Armstrong had been ill for Several Weeks and contracted pneumonia about a week ago. She was rushed to the Winterset hospital where her battle ended in death Friday. She was 62.

Mrs. Armstrong was born Amy Dawn Black near Dexter, Iowa on June 15th, 1889.

She spent her entire life in Dallas and Madison counties. She was graduated from Dexter High School and taught school in that community. She united with the Methodist church at an early age.

On February 24th, 1909 she was joined in marriage with Albert Armstrong of Stuart. They are the parents of two daughters, Amy Dawn, Mrs. Max Jorgensen of Ames and Juanita Agnes, Mrs. D. H. Crawford of Earlham. In 1943 they moved to Adel.

Although in failing health she was faithful to her church. She took an active part in the Dallas County Chorus, lodge and the various club organizations of which she was a member. She especially enjoyed the activities of the Garden Club.

She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, a good neighbor.

She is survived by her devoted husband, the two daughters, seven grandchildren, one sister, Agnes Mills of Los Angeles, Calif., two brothers, Clyde Black of Ames, Ia., and Francis Black of Salidas, Cal., and a large circle of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church here Sunday with Rev. Clarence Thiele reading the last rites. Casket bearers were Newton Curry, Lawrence Marsh, Charley Willrich, Chas. V. Wright and M.E. Williams. Singers were Mrs. Grace McCleary and Mrs. Lawrrence Cook, accompanied by Mrs. Miriam Caudron at the organ.

Interment was at the Dexter cemetery.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral of Mrs. Amy Armstrong were Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gade of Whittemore; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Vaudt and Herman Vaudt of Farnhamville; Mr. and Mrs. Todd Hyland of West Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Black, Julius Black of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Copeland of West Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Armstrong, Fort Dodge; Mrs. A. M. Armstrong; Mrs. Walter Chase of Stuart; Max Armstrong, Coldwater, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Armstrong and Earl of Valley, Nebraska; Mrs. Margaret Bell of Des Moines.
