Al Armstrong, 86, Taken By Death

Funeral service for Albert L. Armstrong, of Adel, was held at the United Methodist Church, Adel, on Monday, August 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Mr. Armstrong, a widely known and respected resident, passed away at the Dexter Clinic Hospital on Friday, August 20, after several months of ill health. He was 86 years old.

He was born at Stuart and spent his boyhood there. After his marriage to Amy Black, in 1909, he farmed in Madison County until they moved to Dexter where he was a livestock buyer. In 1943 they moved to Adel and in 1951 Mrs. Armstrong was taken by death. He was married to Sue Forrester in 1953.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and served as a council member and mayor of both Dexter and Adel. He was a member of the Earlham baseball team for many years and was an ardent fisherman and hunter and active in the Sportsmans Club.

Rev. Orrin T. Potter was in charge of the service. Robert G. Fisher was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Neale Caudron. Casket bearers were Mervyn and Eugene Armstrong, Robert and John Jensen, Royal and Carroll Bond. Burial was at the Dexter Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Sue; his daughter Juanita Crawford of Earlham; two sisters Nora Jensen and Lucile Lewis, both of DeSoto. Also seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and Mrs. Armstrong’s two daughters, Lee Smith of Frazier Park, Calif. and Mary Braden, of Red Oak.
