Winterset—Edith Elsie Algreen, 88, of Community Care Center in Winterset, died of pneumonia Sept. 8, 1996. Services were held Sept. 12 at the Dexter United Methodist Church with interment at Dexter Cemetery.

Mrs. Algreen, the daughter of Henry Ira and Della Mae Wilson Smith, was born on Nov. 5, 1907 in Fairplay, Mo. She moved with her family to the Dexter area. Edith and Vern Algreen were married on April 24, 1925 in Greenfield and farmed south of Dexter for 45 years. In 1971 they retired and moved to Dexter. Mrs. Algreen was an active member of the Dexter United Methodist Church and the UMW. She was also a member of the Dexter Iris Club and was an avid gardener.

The Algreens celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary at the Community Care Center in Winterset where they have lived since 1992.

Mrs. Algreen is survived by her husband, Vern of Winterset, two sons, Donald Algreen of Earlham and Lonnie Pete Algreen of Martensdale; a brother Raymond Smith of Bolivar, Mo.; two sisters, Zona Hamilton of Lakeside, Calif., and Mabel Cronk of Shirland, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Lloyd Algreen, 2 brothers Clifford and Charlie Smith, sisters Fern Jacobsen and Ruby Greenwood and three grandsons, Mike, Jimmy and Tom Algreen.
