Page 3, Columns 3 & 4Earlham—A funeral for James Casper Adkins, 82, of the Earlham Manor Care Center was held May 10, 1986 at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Mr. Adkins died of a stroke at the care center on May 7.
Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.
The son of George and Effie Ambrest Adkins, he was born at Winterset on July 27, 1903. He moved to Dexter in 1925 as manager of the United Food Market. In 1935, he bought the business and continued operating the store for over 50 years.
He was a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church and past president of the church board; past president of the Dexter Commercial Club, a 50-year member of the Mount Tabor Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Dexter City Council, the Dexter school board and the Boy Scout Council.
Survivors include his wife, Antoinette; two sons, James F. and Richard W., both of Dexter; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
