FINAL RITES HELD FOR O. E. OSBORNE, 82

Services for Oscar E. Osborne, 82, of 636 Thirteenth Street, were held Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the McLaren Funeral home, with burial in the cemetery at Waukee. Mr. Osborne died of a stroke last Thursday evening at his home.

Mr. Osborne was born in 1872 in Dallas county and was the son of Martha Ellen and Joel Preston Osborne. He was married March 27, 1892 at Adair to Fanny C. Herbert. They moved to West Des Moines in 1900.

He retired September 1, 1937, as a switchman for the Rock Island railroad for thirty-four years. Mr. Osborne was a member of the Friends church, the Switchman’s Union of North America No. 174, the Odd Fellows, and the Masons.

Surviving besides his widow, Fannie, are a son, Wynn H. Osborne of Des Moines; four daughters, Mrs. Beryl Davenport with whom he made his home, Mrs. Faye Roberts of Grimes; Mrs. Helen Lyman of Duluth, Minnesota; and Mrs. Elaine Wesslund of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother, E. O. Osborne of Knoxville; nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Mr. Osborne’s home as a young man was at Bear Creek.
