Mrs. Mary Jane Mendenhall passed away Saturday at the home of her daughter in Oskaloosa after an illness of some duration. She was a sister-in-law of the late Calvin Mendenhall, and was the widow of Jonathan Mendenhall, who lived for many years in the Bear Creek neighborhood. Her first marriage was to a Mr. Pearson, and after his death she became the wife of Jonathan Mendenhall, residing first at Bear Creek, and subsequently at Indianola and finally in Des Moines, where her husband’s death occurred. Since that time she has lived with her children.

She is survived also by two brothers, Elkanah Craven, of Washington State and Lineus Craven residing south of Des Moines. The body was brought to Redfield Tuesday and remained at the home of a niece Mrs. Kipping until Wednesday, when interment was made in Bear Creek Cemetery.
