Earlham Echo – Earlham, Iowa
September 1923

Mr. Charles C. Pugh, aged 58, former Dallas County Clerk of Court, Dexter newspaper man and May and newspaper writer, passed away Tuesday at a Sanitarium in Des Moines. His last years have been marred by ill health, and recently his mind was affected to such an extent that he was under treatment at Independence. Mr. Pugh was ----- by in Earlham and --- in the Park during the war, and is well known by many. He will be best remembered by his nature sketches, which displayed not only a remarkable command of the English language, but must have been the reflection of a character essentially free. Whatever mistakes C. C. Pugh may have made in his life can be easily overlooked in contemplation of such of his works as “An October Night” and “The Lilac.” For many years he has written a column of paragraphs for the Stuart Herald, and as we remember these articles, they were always constructive and complementary, optimistic.

Funeral services will be held from Dunn’s funeral home at 1:30 Thursday, and interment will be at Dexter Friday.
