June 20, 1940

Mary Alice Macy, daughter of Joseph H. and Rosa E. Macy, was born in Dallas county, Iowa, May 9, 1902 and passed away at her home in Washington township on June 13, 1940 at the age of 38 years, one month and three days.

She was married to Melvin F. Landis March 4th, 1926. To this union one son Charles Melvin was born. On September 3, 1916 she joined the Panther Creek U. B. church and was baptized in the South Coon river by Rev. H. M. Hulse. In the fall of 1925 she transferred her membership to the Methodist church at Waukee, Iowa. Later in 1931 she transferred her membership to Washington Chapel where she was a member at the time of her death. Through her long weeks of illness, with her cheery smile, she was a patient and silent sufferer, thinking not of herself, but only of others.

She expressed her readiness to go when ever the Lord called her home.

She leaves to mourn, her husband Melvin Landis, one son Charles, 12 years old, her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Macy of Earlham; three brothers, Aaron of Broadus, Montana; Charles of Torrington, Wyoming; and Philip of Earlham; and five sisters, Dora Hougham of Booneville, Iowa; Bertha Rush of West Des Moines; Miss Jo Macy of Los Angeles, California; Edith Tyer of Waukee, Iowa; and Rose Rippey of Cambridge, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mary graduated from Earlham high school in the class of 1922.
