Rites Held Wednesday For Anson Hadley

Anson Hadley, long time resident of the Bear Creek community, died at his home early Monday morning, February 5. Mr. Hadley had been in poor health for some time. He was 78 years old. He moved to this locality with his parents 62 years ago, purchasing the farm which has been his home 42 years ago.

OBITUARY

Isaac Anson Hadley, youngest son of Jesse and Rebecca Hadley, was born November 11, 1862 near Smyrna, Clark county, Iowa. In the spring of 1878 he, with his family came to the Bear Creek neighborhood where he has lived for the past sixty-two years. Forty-three years ago he purchased the farm near the Bear Creek church which has since been his home.

On Sunday morning October the seventeenth 1886, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Barnett, a happy union which endured more than fifty-three years. Into this home three children were born: Orpha H. Mendenhall, Oren B., and Willard J. The first break in this family circle came in the early morning of February 5th, 1940, when the loving husband and father quietly slipped away from his earthly home, out into the life beyond.

Anson was a birthright member of the Friends church and the son of parents who took time to give Christian teaching. His mother passed away many hours relating stories from the Bible, making plain its teachings concerning the way of life. He was converted when a young man, during revival meetings held at the country church at Pleasant Hill. In his personal religious life he was unassuming, sincere, earnest and faithful. He was a charter member of the Christian Endeavor Society at Bear Creek. During the years he served his meeting in various official capacities, having for more than forty years been a teacher in the Sunday School. Until the last he was vitally interested in the welfare of the church and as long as health permitted was found in his accustomed place at worship. He was devoted to his family and home—a good neighbor and citizen, keenly interested in community enterprises.

Besides his wife and children, there are left to mourn his loss, nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
