Evan George, son of Isaac and Anna George was born near Valley Mills, Marion Co., Indiana Oct. 17, 1827 and departed this life Jan. 26, 1911 age 83 years, 3 mo. and 9 days. His boyhood and young manhood were spent in Indiana near his birthplace. In 1848 he came to Keokuk Co., Ia. near Richland, where the following April he was united in marriage to Asenath Haworth. They entered land and made their home near Ackworth, Warren Co., Ia. They lived in this place for 17 years. In 1866 they removed to Dallas Co. and settled on the farm adjoining Bear Creek church, and in the nearby vicinities they have spent their remaining years.

To this union were born ten children—four boys and six girls, as follows: Francis Marion, Portland, Ore., Guelema Fry, Grinnell, Ia., Emeline Hadley, Earlham, Ia., Jesse C., Walla Walla, Washington, Betsie Ann-deceased, Sidney Hadley, Bear Creek, Naomi Swift died in the mission field, Jamaica, Esther, died in infancy, William H. died at 14 years of age and Charles W. of Oskaloosa. The life long companion of nearly 62 years, together with the six children are left to mourn the loss of a kind father and loving husband.

He died strong in the faith of his Savior. He often expressed his faith in private conversation.

His life was unselfish and spent for others.
He always prized his membership, being a birthright member, in the Friends Church. He took active part in all church and educational affairs, believing that education was a strong adjunct to efficient church work, as well as to good citizenship. He prized his rights as a citizen and was always actively interested in all public affairs.

The funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the home of H. J. Hadley at Bear Creek, the services being conducted by Rev. Mills, of Earlham, and Rev. Kitch, of Bear Creek. The remains were interred in Bear Creek Cemetery.
