James Albert SELLARDS, son of Dr. D. F. SELLARDS and Mary FOSTER SELLARDS, was born October 29, 1871, in the family home across the street from the court house square in Mount Ayr in what is now the center of the business district of the town. He graduated with the Mount Ayr high school class of 1889, and two years later from Drake University.

He was married June 1, 1893, to Litta J. SHEPHERD, a sister of George S. SHEPHERD. To them were born three children, Mary E. CRASE of Perry, James A. Jr., and Robert of Des Moines.

In early life he became a member of the Christian church, of which he was a faithful and active member until four years ago, when he transferred his membership to the Methodist church, in which at the time of his death he was a trustee. He was an active member of the Masonic lodge from early life, and its related organizations.

For several years after reaching manhood he was successfully engaged in business in Mount Ayr. Later he moved to Des Moines and was for some years in the telephone business, and was then city circulation manager of the Register and Tribune. For some years he was connected with the state auditor's office. For sixteen years he has been superintendent of the automobile department of Dallas county at Adel.

He is survived by his wife, three children, five grandchildren and a brother, Dr. J. W. SELLARDS of Clarinda.

He died suddenly of a heart attack at his home August 27.

Funeral services were held August 29 at the Methodist church at Adel, interment being in Oakdale cemetery.
