Van MeterOur community was greatly shocked by the sudden death of Uncle Jimmie Clayton, who was only sick about fifteen minutes with heart failure. James Daniel Clayton was born in North Carolina, Sept. 15, 1833 and died at his home, one mile south of Van Meter, Jan. 10, 1912, aged 78 years, 3 months, 25 days. He joined the M.E. church in early manhood.
He is survived by his wife and six children, Calvin Clayton of Missouri, Mrs. Anna McCleeary of Kansas, Mrs. Simmons of Ames, Mrs. Jennie Page of Fort Dodge and Charles and Wesley of Van Meter, all of whom were present at the funeral which was held in the M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Floyd Smith. Interment in the Van Meter cemetery.
