JOSEPH WASSON'S SUFFERINGS OVER
Death Came To Veteran Engineer Yesterday Afternoon At The Home In North Part Of The City

After weeks of suffering, the past four or five days of which he has been unconscious, Joseph Wasson, a veteran engineer and well known Perry citizen, died yesterday afternoon at the home in the north part of the city. The end came about five o'clock, and while it brought sorrow to the family and friends, it came as a great relief to Mr. Wasson, who has known for some time that there was no hope of his recovery.

Dropsy was the cause of his death, and he has been suffering from it for almost a year. For several months he has been unable to work and most of that time has been bedfast.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 from the home and will be conducted by Dr. A. M. Work, pastor of the Presbyterian church.

For thirty years Mr. Wasson has been running an engine on the Milwaukee and the most of that time has lived in Perry. He was born in Oswego, New York, June 15, 1851, but his parents moved to Peoria, Illinois, when he was a baby and his youth was spent in that place. He was married in that city to Miss Jeanette Jackson, 44 years ago, and to them were born nine children, eight of whom are left with the mother to mourn the loss of a man who loved his family and home, and worked hard to provide for their comfort. The children are Holsey, Fred, David, Clarence and Nina Wasson, Mrs. Neal Mulholland, Mrs. Edith Taylor and Mrs. Josephine Schwaub. He was a member of the American Patriots and Highland Nobles, carrying insurance in each of these orders.

Joe Wasson had hundreds of friends in Perry, who will learn with sorrow of his death. He was well known among the railroad men, was popular with all of them and by all who came in contact with him.

To the family sincere sympathy will be offered.

CORRECTION & NOTES: Joseph Henry Wasson was born June 19, 1850, in Sterling Township, Cayuga County, New York, to George Wasson and his wife Sarah ("Sally" Brewster) Wasson. His father died in New York from a buggy accident on April 12, 1852. His mother brought him to Elmwood Township, Peoria County, Illinois prior to 1855.
The grandparents of Joseph H. Wasson were James Wasson and his wife Margaret ("Peggy" Dorn) Wasson of Corrisbush (Corry's Brook), Princetown Township, Schenectady County, New York.
