Saturday Morning, February 8, 1913DEATH CLAIMS OLD ENGINEER
Joseph Wasson Passed Away Yesterday At The Family Home In NorthEast Part Of The TownYesterday afternoon Joseph Wasson, one of the oldest engineers on the Milwaukee at this division point, died at his home at the corner of North and Summer street, following an illness which had kept him off the road for the past five or six months, and which for the past year had been wearing upon him. Dropsy, with other complications following in the closing days of his life, was the cause.
Joseph Wasson was born in Oswego, New York on June 15, 1851. When he was but a year old his parents moved to Peoria, Illinois, and in that city he grew to manhood and spent the early years of his activity as a musician, being a leader in various orchestras. He was united in marriage to Miss Jeanette Jackson and for 44 years they shared the joys and the sorrows, the successes and the disappointments, the comforts and trials of wedded life. To them were born nine children, one passing away in infancy. Four sons and four daughters remain as a consolation for the mother, Holsey, Fred, David and Clarence, Mrs. Edith Taylor, Mrs. Josephine Schraub, Miss Nina, and Mrs. Cornelius Mullholen. The latter arrived from Denver some time ago and has assisted in the care of the father during the final hours of his illness.
Thirty years ago he entered the employ of the Milwaukee railroad and for years has been an engineer. The greater part of the time has been spent as a resident of Perry. He was a member of the American Patriots and the Highland Nobles.
The funeral will probably be held Sunday at 2:30, but no definite arrangements could be announced last night.
NOTE: Joseph Henry Wasson was the son of George and Sarah (Brewster) Wasson of Sterling, Cayuga County, New York; and grandson of James and Margaret (Dorn) Wasson of Corrisbush (Corry's Brook), Princetown Township, Schenectady County, New York.
