John Severin Gustafson suddenly passed away at the home of his son Carl 2 1/2 miles north east of Kiron Friday evening, May 23,(1924). For a number of weeks he had been confined to his bed with aged infirmities and their complication, earlier in the spring he had an attack of pneumonia and was under the care of a doctor and nurse, from which he recovered, but his condition kept him confined to his bed. Friday evening his son Carl brought him his supper and placed it at his bedside, and nothing unusual about him was noticed. Carl left the room and was absent about fifteen minutes attending to his chores and when on returning to the house and his father's room finding that he had passed away, apparently sustaining a stroke that ended his life.

Severin Gustafson was born at Stenstorp, Rolfstrop Socken, Halland Lan, Sweden, September 28, 1842 and at death had reached the age of 81 years, 7 months and 23 days. He resided in Sweden for 68 years during which time he married and saw his children grown to manhood and womanhood and come to this country and his faithful wife pass into the great beyond.

In the fall of 1910 he left his native land and came to America to spend the remaining days with his children. Since coming to this country he made his home with his sons Enard at Alta and Carl of Kiron. He leaves to mourn him, three sons and one daughter and their families, Carl of Kiron, Enard and Albin of Alta, and Alma at Marathon, one brother in Sac county and three sisters in Sweden.
Coming to this country at an advanced age he mingled with people but very little outside the family circle of his children and their families, living and enjoying the home life and comforts provided by them. He became but slightly acquainted, of a quiet and pleasant disposition, commanding the respect of those who knew him.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the home and was attended by all his children and their families besides relatives and neighbors and a large number of relatives and friends from out of the community. Services were conducted by Rev. Glad of Bethel Lutheran church of which the deceased was a member. Interment was made in the Kiron cemetery.

Thus another devoted father and esteemed grandpa has left the ranks of his loved ones and passed on to his rest after a long life's journey. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.
