CARL EMIL GUSTAFSON – (1874-1954)

Carl Emil Gustafson was born on Stenstorp farm in Rolfstorp parish, Halland Lan, Sweden Feb. 6, 1874 to Johan Severin and Johanna (Axelsdotter) Gustafson and died Jan. 6, 1954 at his farm home near Kiron in Stockholm township section 5.

Carl received his early education in Sweden and was confirmed there.

In 1891 he came to America where be settled in Ida county. Feb. 24, 1900 he was united in marriage to Amanda Lundberg. To this union six children were born. He has lived in the Kiron community for 47 years. He farmed his entire life and owned a 160 acre farm. For many years he provided the thrasher for the local ring of farmers.

He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Laverne and a brother Johan Albin of Minnesota. Survivors are his five children: Mayme, Mrs. Ernest Carlson of Albert City; Ernest of Deloit; Florence, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson of Pomeroy; Vernal of Kiron; and Willard of Kiron. Other survivors are eight grandchildren, a sister, Alma, Mrs. John Anderson of Marathon, a brother, Enard Gustafson of Arthur.

Memorial services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon Jan. 9, 1954 from the Kiron Baptist church with Rev. Orville Johnson officiating. Mrs. Delmar Mauritz and Mrs. Elmer Wilson sang, "Mansion over the Hilltop". A mixed quartette sang in Swedish, "Tiden Forsvinnor."

Pallbearers were Enoch Ecklund, Oscar Danielson, Albin Malmquist, Paul F. Hedstrom, Thure A. Linden and Victor Youngquist. Interment was in the Kiron cemetery.
