ARVID LEONARD GUSTAFSON 1895 - 1981

Arvid Leonard Gustafson was born April 16, 1895, in Ida County to John and Emma Carlson Gustafson. Arvid died in the Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove, November 11, 1981 at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 26 days. He was four years old when he, with his parents, moved to the farm in Sac County, Wheeler Township. He grew up and lived on this farm all his life except for two years spent in Ida County, farming. He was an active member of the Arthur Baptist Church. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nils Carlson, were charter members of this church. Arvid was the eldest of seven sons and one daughter. His mother died when Arvid was 21 years old. His father was severely crippled with arthritis. Arvid was dedicated to farming and was a steward of the soil.

He was united in marriage to Alma Nordholm, March 4, 1925. Alma died on June 2, 1936.
On June 18, 1938, he married Agnes Fries Houser. To this union was born three daughters.
His immediate survivors are his wife, Agnes; three daughters: Lois (Mrs. Eugene Asa) of Port Orchard, WA; Margaret of Cape Town, South Africa; and Carol (Mrs. Val Oswald) of Aurora, NE; two stepsons, B. Harry Houser of Portland, OR and Harold A. Houser of Santa Clara, CA; and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Verne of Oakhurst, CA; Elving of Lemon, SD; and Elmer of the family home in Kiron.

He is survived by three brothers, Richard and Russell of Kiron, and Sidney of Grinnell, and one sister, Mrs. Mildred Hoaglund of Phoenix, AZ; and many nephews, other relatives and friends.
