DIES IN HIS WAGON

Olaf Gradin, Aged Resident of Hayes Dead

Was Loading Stove in Wagon When he was Stricken by Heart Disease

Olaf Gradin, aged 72, who has been a well known and highly respected resident of Hayes township since the early eighties, dropped dead from heart disease Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock. He had driven to the Peter Sjodin residence to buy a stove and the young men had just put the stove into the wagon and had gone into the house for some of the fixtures. When they returned, they found the old man lying in the bottom of the wagon gasping his last.

Mr. Gradin leaves a wife, three grown sons and three daughters. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Swedish Baptist church and interment at the cemetery there.

Olof Gradin was born in Helgum Guxes, Sweden, 3 March 1844, his age at the time of his death being 72 years, 11 days. He came to this country in the year 1868 and located south of Kiron and after a few years moved to Ida county where he has since resided. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, six children, Alfred and Abraham and Martha, who are on the old homestead. Olaf resided near Hawarden on farm, and Mrs. Rev. Osbeck of Meade, Nebraska and Mrs. Jno. F. Peterson of near Kiron, one brother, Lars Olson who resides in Sweden, one sister, Mrs. Lars Anderson of Kiron, besides a score of friends and relatives. He was a good, kind hearted husband and father and was liked by all who knew him. Funeral services were held last Friday from the Swedish Baptist church in Hayes Township of which he was a faithful member. Rev. Carlson of the same church, conducted the funeral service, where a large gathering were present to review the remains. He was laid to rest in the Hayes Township cemetery.
