Wm. Gronau passes away at the state hospital in Cherokee, Sunday, March 6, at the age of 42 years, 3 months, and 8 days.

Wm. F. Gronau, who was born Nov., 28, 1889, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Gronau of Stockholm township, Crawford county. He grew to manhood and received his schooling in this locality. William, usually called "Bill", was always congenial and cheerful and was well liked by all who knew him. He was a competent workman and very ambitious until the later years of his life when disease obtained a stronghold on him. He made a courageous battle for life but of no avail.

He was baptized and confirmed in the St. John Lutheran church of Stockholm township, of which he was a member until death.

He was united in marriage to Ferne Johnson, also of Stockholm township on Now 26, 1921. This happy union was blessed with one daughter, Ramona, who was called to depart from her parents when but five months old. Thus they were called upon to share together a bit of life's sweet and a bit of life's bitter.

William was a loving and tender husband, son and brother. With the exception of being in business in Kiron for three years and two years in Omaha, he followed the line of farming in this locality.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his bereaved young wife, his aged parents. Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Gronau, five brothers, Charles, Louie, Fred, Henry and Herbert, and one sister, Mrs. Lena Schultz, all of this locality. Two brothers, Albert and Walter, preceded him in death. He also leaves a large number of other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Henry Gronau home and at 2 o'clock from the Free Mission Church in Kiron conducted by Rev. L. H. Loesch, pastor of the St. John Lutheran church. The five brothers, Charles, Louie, Fred, Henry and Herbert and his brother-in-law, Ruben Johnson were pallbearers. He was laid to rest beside the grave of his little daughter in the Kiron Cemetery.
