Ray E. Garrett, son of Lydia McLaughlin Garrett and Joseph Marshall Garrett was born November 15, 1894 in Grand Junction, Iowa. He remained there until he reached young manhood. His family then moved to Denison.

It was from Denison that he enlisted in the Army on 7 April 1917. After returning from the Armed Services, he married Sophia Nelson of Ida Grove. During his married life he lived in Red Oak, Denison, Arthur, Des Moines, Altoona, and Ida Grove. While working in Des Moines, he was employed with Solar Aircraft, first as a tool and die maker and then as a storekeeper. He retired from Solar Aircraft in 1964. His retirement years were spent in Altoona until April 1972 when he returned to Ida Grove.

Mr. Garrett was a member of the Altoona Regular Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Altoona.

He is survived by his wife Sophia, his daughter Mrs. Gordon Bell, both of Ida Grove; three sisters Mrs. Marjorie Klein and Mrs. Zlipha Adams, both of Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Hazel Scrivner of Cedar Rapids; one brother George Garrett of Gridley, California; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildrren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
