Emma Augusta Quandt Schneider 1893-1990

Emma Schneider, the daughter of Herman and Albertina Meseck Quandt Sr., was born Oct. 22, 1893, near Charter Oak, IA. She died May 15, 1990, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 96 years.

Emma grew up on a farm near Charter Oak and attended a rural school in Hanover Township. After her education, she assisted her brother Emil in his home.

Emma was united in marriage to Paul Schneider Dec. 19, 1915, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. This union was blessed with six children. After their marriage, Emma and Paul made their home on farms in Goodrich and Milford Townships. Paul died in January, 1949, and Emma continued to live on the farm until moving to Denison in 1964. She entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in 1988, where she made her home until her death.

Emma was baptized a Christian as an infant and later confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one daughter, Esther Schneider; one son, Paul Schneider; one grandson; and one son-in-law, William Schneller.

Her survivors include her children: Martin Schneider and his wife Shirley of Denison, Rose Mae Schneller of Denison, Herman Schneider and his wife, Edith of Denison, Emma and her husband, Harold Riessen of Schleswig; one daughter-in-law, Jeanette and her husband Cyrenus Knief of Deloit; twenty six grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; also one brother Herman Quandt of Dunlap and one sister-in-law, Alvin Quandt of Denison.

Funeral services were held at 11 am., Friday, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with internment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist and Henry Henningsen soloist. The solo selection was “Rock of Ages” and the congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I’m But a Stranger Here.”

Serving as pallbearers were David Schneider, Robert Schneller, Carol Korwes, Sharon Peters, Roland Schneider and Harry Riessen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner & Sons Funeral Service in Denison.
