The vicinity was saddened and shocked when it was learned last Thursday, December 19, that Mrs. Harvey Wellendorf, bride of only one year, and a young mother had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. A daughter was born on Wednesday and the young mother seemed to be doing nicely until the following afternoon, when a sudden turn for the worse came and she died at 3:30. The babe is doing well and is being cared for in the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wellendorf.
Mrs. May Bell Wellendorf was born May 23, 1911 at Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Emma (Kunze) Clausen. She attended St John's Lutheran School and was confirmed in 1924. She graduated from the Charter Oak high school with the class of 1929 and taught in rural schools for five years.
On January 27, she was united in marriage with Harvey Wellendorf and they began farming last March on the groom's father's farm in Ida County. She had reached the age of 24 years, 6 months, and 26 days.
Besides the bereaved husband, those who mourn her death are, her mother, Mrs. Emma Westphalen; her twin sister, May Lou, Mrs. Herman Wellendorf; a sister, Tillie, Mrs. Clingenpeel, three brothers, William, Fred, and Herman; half-brother, Edlef Westphalen; Mr. And Mrs. Carl Wellendorf and many other relatives of the husband.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 22, with Rev. Mueller in charge. Many gathered at the church to pay their last respects to the departed neighbor and loved one. Burial was made in the cemetery near Charter Oak.
The pallbearers were six cousins, A.C. Gottburg, Irwin Riessen, Carl Holrath, Hans Wellendorf, Clarence Bielenberg, and Harry Wellendorf.
