A Tribute to a Beautiful Life Ended at Its Beginning

When a young life comes to a close almost at its beginning, it is anything but a pleasure to record it. Then when that young life belongs to one you have watched grow to a perfect womanhood, the joy of her parents, the pride of her friends, the friend of all, there is sadness, even though you are but a neighbor or an onlooker. Such was the life of Miss Alma Jacobsen, and such were the feelings of those who learned of her death last week.

Miss Jacobsen was a pretty girl, not only beautiful in feature, but lovable in disposition. Always a friend to her acquaintances, a playmate of her pupils in school, a quiet unassuming lady on the street and it is hard sometimes to interpret the Divine motive in taking away such a life when it is so greatly needed here on earth. ""But God is good, and all is for the best.""

Alma Meta Jacobsen, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Jacobsen, was born in Charter Oak June 28, 1898, and spent here life here to its close on Jan. 29, 1919. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church in 1913, and in 1917 graduated from the Charter Oak high school. She became a teacher in the rural schools, and a very successful one. She was taken with influenza while at work, seemed to recover and returned to her duties. A few days later she was taken again, and this time she could not surmount the obstacles in the way of her recovery. She fought hard and seemed to be winning. The day she passed away she sat up a few minutes at two different times, and that evening she took some nourishment. In her sickness she had suffered much pain, but that had gone, and every indication pointed to a full and speedy recovery. And the end came when least expected.

Miss Jacobsen is survived by her parents and four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Frieda W. Mills, Mrs. Alvena L. Frei, Mrs. Anna M. Coe, Mrs. Ida A. Dodge, all of Sioux City; Jacob C. Jacobsen, of Bloomfield, Neb.; Emil P. Jacobsen of Danbury and Broder J. Jacobsen, recently discharged from the army. Her brother Broder was her constant attendant, caring for her night and day through the critical times of her long sickness.

Funeral services were held in St. John's Lutheran church, and she was laid away in the church cemetery. All of her family were present to bid her the last long farewell except the brother in Nebraska, who was detained by sickness in his family. Other relatives were a cousin from Nebraska and Nellie M. Morita, a niece.
