Max Penningroth, 88, of Bremerton died of a lengthy illness Oct. 13, 2000, in Tacoma.

He was born Nov. 28, 1911, in Hartley, Iowa, to August and Myrtle (Pheteplace) Penningroth. He graduated from Charter Oak High School in Iowa in 1929.

He married Sadie Baker on April 16, , in Olivet, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1998.

Mr. Penningroth was an electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 35 years.

He was a member First Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Bremerton.

Survivors include a son, Gerald of Renton; a daughter, Janet Bodner of Lakewood; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Schnede.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
