Gladys Lucille Keim was born June 17, 1915, the daughter of George and Alice Jenkins Thompson. She died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia, Iowa at the age of ninety-two.

Gladys was born in Charter Oak, Iowa and received her education in Charter Oak, graduating from Charter Oak High School. She began working for the office of the Dean at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. While there, she received her teaching certificate and began teaching in country schools. On June 23, 1936 she was united in marriage to Lavern (John) Keim in Charter Oak. The couple made their home in St. Joseph, Missouri, Denison, Iowa, Omaha and Atlantic, Iowa. They were blessed with the birth of five children, Gayle, Kurt, Gene, Kandis and Julie.

She was very fond of music and enjoyed singing, dancing, whistling, playing the organ, and watching Lawrence Welk. She enjoyed taking care of her plants and flowers and was an avid reader, having read a book every day through the years. She also enjoyed compiling recipes into her own book of favorites, and was known for her pancakes. Gladys looked forward to lunch at the Senior Center in Ottumwa, and would put together plants to sell for fundraisers at the Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lavern (John); and two sons, Gayle and Kurt. She is survived by one son, Gene and his wife, Yvonne of Frederick, Colorado; two daughters, Kandis Bonnesen and her husband, Bill of Glendale, Arizona; and Julie Ransford and her husband, Tony of Eddyville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Keim of Glendale, Arizona; and Sharon Keim of Lakewood, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Marlyn Thompson of Mapleton, Iowa; Gladys Keim of Denison; and Narlean Keim of Charter Oak; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa. Fr. Glenn Rankin officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Charter Oak Cemetery in Charter Oak, Iowa. Fr. Rankin also provided organ music, playing "The Old Rugged Cross," and "The Little Brown Church in the Vale." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Dale Keim, Bert Dimig, and Henry Kolls. Those serving as pallbearers were Scott Bonnesen, Cory Ransford, Joshua Vose, Brian Bonnesen, Danny Dimig, and Kevin Keim. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch at Cronk's Restaurant in Denison. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.
