Denise Rae Ernst was born May 26, 1954, the daughter of Merle and Lois Klinker Ernst. She died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at her home in Oak Lawn, Illinois at the age of fifty-three after a courageous battle with cancer.

Denise was born at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized on June 20, 1954 and was later confirmed on April 14, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ida Grove, Iowa. She attended Schleswig Community School and graduated with the class of 1972. Denise attended Airline School in Kansas City, and moved to Chicago in 1972.

On September 25, 1976, Denise was united in marriage to Charles M. "Mike " Queenan at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. To this union was born a son, Michael Allen.

Over the years Denise was employed by Motorola, United Airlines, Star Motors Mercedes Dealership, and Frank Shirey Cadillac at the time of her death. She always took great pride in her work at Shirey Cadillac serving as Executive Assistant for the last 18 years and was very dedicated to her work right up to the time of her illness.

Denise was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed watching her son's athletic events. She was very active in aerobic classes later becoming an aerobic instructor for five years. Denise especially enjoyed going back to Iowa for family visits and holidays.

Denise will be remembered for her kind and caring nature, always willing to help others in anyway.

Denise was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Ben and Hilda Klinker, her paternal grandparents: Ted and Hilda Ernst.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her son, Michael and his wife Christina of Oak Lawn, Illinois, her parents Merle and Lois Ernst of Schleswig, Iowa, two sisters Diane Taylor and husband Phil of Omaha, Nebraska, Donita Mork and husband Dan of Sac City, Iowa, two brothers Allen Ernst and wife Cher of Carol Stream, Illinois, Jerry Ernst and wife Barb of Denison, Iowa, special companion Dave Chibe, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends.

Services were held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn, Illinois with Pastor Stephen F. Bocklage officiating. A service was also held on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa with Rev. Merle Mahnken officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Grant Township, Ida Grove, Iowa. Organist, Marlene Hight provided the accompaniment for congregational hymns "Jesus Savior Pilot Me", "Just as I Am Without One Plea" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Those serving as pallbearers were: Jason Ernst, Bryan Ernst, Nick Ernst, Ryan Ernst, Matt Mork and Charles M. "Mike" Queenan. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.
