Gerald Henry Jors was born June 22, 1946, the son of Henry and Dorothy Eggers Jors. He died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of sixty-one.

Jerry was born in Denison, Iowa and received his education in Denison, graduating from Denison High School with the class of 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1966. On February 11, 1978, he was united in marriage to Nancy Kroeger at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home in Denison.

He worked in the meat packing industry for over thirty years, retiring early in life due to health reasons. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his son, Mike, and taking his granddaughter fishing at Yellowsmoke Park in Denison. Jerry would make his own deer hamburger, and sausage, in addition to smoking meats. Whenever he had visitors, he would insist they try whatever it was that he had made, and was known to send food home with them. His daughter Michelle would have to try everything he made, and he usually wouldn't tell her what it was until after she ate it. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew, Justin Lee. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Denison; his daughter Michelle Jors and her special friend, Jason Zander of Dayton, Iowa; his son Mike Jors and his wife, Gina of Thornton, Colorado; three grandchildren, Megan Woodward of Dayton, Iowa; and Luke and Lance Jors of Thornton, Colorado; three sisters, Barb Hargens of Manilla; Kay Jors of Goodyear, Arizona; and Sharon Lee and her husband, Ron of Moorhead; two sisters-in-law, Vanessa Garcia and her husband, Ben of Longmont, Colorado; and Mike Kroeger and his wife, Susan of Clovis, New Mexico; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Beautiful Savior," "Here I Am, Lord," and "Borning Cry." Vocalist Megan Woodward sang the hymn "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming." Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Don Eggert and Jerry Hansen. Those serving as Pallbearers were Todd Brotherson, Art Hargens, Scott Hintz, Dale Schiltz, Brian Zavitz, Loren Adams, and John Adams. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
