Leonard A. Meggers was born February 4, 1921, the son of Alfred and Elizabeth Jaacks Meggers. He died August 20, 2007 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-six.

Leonard was baptized in Christ December 14, 1921 and confirmed March 21, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, and also attended Lutheran school there. On February 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joyce Brink and were blessed with the birth of four children, Carolyn, Kathy, Jim, and Jeff. He worked as a farm hand for Eddie Christiansen for many years in addition to working for the telephone company and the railroad. Leonard was also employed at IBP, and continued working there until his retirement. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, and playing cards with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Meggers; his wife, Joyce; his son, Jeff; three brothers, Emil, Edward, and Marvin; three sisters, Minnie Frank; Edna Igou; and Esther Namanny. Survivors include his children, Carolyn Nelson and her husband, Earl of Denison; Kathy Cornelius and her husband, Rick of Odebolt; and Jim Meggers and his special friend, Brenda Petersen of Dow City; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mag Christiansen of Dow City; and Irene Jepsen of Schleswig; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Dow City, Iowa. Pastor Tom Petersen officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Organist Jeanette Kuhlmann provided accompaniment for soloist EveVonne Muff as she sang "On Eagle's Wings," and for the congregational hymns "Amazing Grace," and "In the Garden." Those serving as pallbearers were Dennis Nelson, David Nelson, Cory Klink, Josh Meggers, Chris Klink, Cole Klink, and Chris Terwilleger. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch at the Dow City Community Building, served by the Methodist Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
