Jerold "Jerry" Lee son of Carl and Bertha (Doty) Mills, was born May 10, 1939, at Storm Lake, Iowa. He grew up in Alta, IA where he attended school. In 1957, Jerry enlisted in the military and served in the United States Air Force and Army in Korea and Vietnam. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Jerry lived in Texas, California, and Wyoming before settling in Manilla in 1985.

Jerry was united in marriage with Denise Hansen at Denison, Iowa, and the couple made their home in Manilla. Jerry spent most of his career working for McClellan Electric. He also spent time working for IBP, Plastico and Venteicher Electric. After Jerry's retirement in 2001, he continued to stay busy working part-time. In his spare time Jerry enjoyed working in his workshop, yard work, gardening, attending tractor pulls and rodeos, fishing, watching Iowa Hawkeyes and Denver Broncos football games, and most importantly spending time with his family.

In September 2006, Jerry was diagnosed with cancer. On August 25, 2007, he died at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 15 days.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Elizabeth Mills at infancy.

He is survived by his wife Denise Mills of Manilla; six children: Ricky Burchfield of Sherman, TX; Donna and husband Pete Wilkerson of Abilene, TX; Heidi Hansen of Irwin; Matthew Hansen of Des Moines; Mike Mills and fiancée Tina Spencer of Manilla; and Holly Mills and fiancé Julio Galicia of Denison; nine grandchildren: Misty, Bridget, and Brandy Burchfield; Johnny, Charlene, and Harley Wilkerson; KaLee and Kambree Hansen; and Keilyn Vazquez; two brothers: Robert Mills and wife Delores of Hemet, CA; and Richard Mills and wife Cathy of Willard, MO; sister Carol Jean MacLeod of Spencer; brother-in-law Denny Hansen and wife Janette of Manilla; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Ohde Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 10:30 AM, Manilla, IA. Pastor Lanette Plambeck officiating. Music "Unanswered Prayers", Garth Brooks "Killin' Time", Clint Black, recordings. "The Old Rugged Cross", congregation. Casket Bearers; Noel Wiebelhaus, Dan Mengwasser, Tom Hast, Steve Fogelman, Aaron Dickson, Doug Hagemann. Honorary Casket Bearers; Gil Schoba, Chris Sands, Curt Bruhn, James Goeser, Nick Rasmussen, Estabelle Denton. Interment with Military Honors, Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla, IA. American Legion Post 132. Visitation was Tuesday, August 28, 2007, 4:00 - 8:00 PM Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla, IA.
