Kevin Robert Remmes was born April 30, 1965, the son of Robert and Esther Wellner Remmes. He died at his home in Sioux City, Iowa, Monday, July 16, 2007 at the age of forty-two.

Kevin was born in Denison, and grew up in Charter Oak, Iowa. He received his education in the Charter Oak-Ute community schools, graduating from the Charter Oak-Ute Community High School in 1983. He furthered his education at Iowa State University before returning to Charter Oak where he worked for Charter Oak Ag for several years. In 1995, he moved to Sioux City and was employed at the Jolly Time Popcorn Company where he worked until health problems forced his retirement from there in 2005.

In his leisure time, Kevin enjoyed golfing and watching football and other sporting events on TV. He was a loving son and brother, always looking forward to spending time with his family, taking his mother on trips to other states to visit family and friends, and planning an upcoming cruise with them in the coming season. He was tremendously fond of and enjoyed visiting his sister, Lynn and her family, Steve and daughter, Aurelia all in Omaha.

Of his accomplishments, Kevin was proudest of his success in overcoming his substance abuse addiction, and being able to help others with the same illness. He had many friends with whom he gave and received support and comfort. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Robert in 1990. Survivors include his mother, Esther of Charter Oak; one sister, Lynn Paup and her husband, Steve of Omaha, Nebraska and one niece, Aurelia also of Omaha.

Memorial Mass was held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Fr. Donald Slaven served as Celebrant of the mass with Fr. Richard Remmes as Concelebrant. Inurnment was held at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Charter Oak. Organist Colleen Henderson provided accompaniment for vocalists Jim and Nancy Jurgens as they sang. Allen Staley served as Reader, and Nolan and Brad Staley were Altar Servers. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Blaine Schwingdorf, Steve Langholdt, Bruce Schmieder, Gary Wellner, Dean Berens, Robert Christiansen Jr., Sherwin Langholdt, Tony Schmieder, Ron Wellner, and Brent Kroll. A Prayer Service was held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at the mass to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Altar Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.
