Diann Cena Hoffmeier was born August 8, 1948, the daughter of Clarence and Elsie Schneller Schiernbeck. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the age of fifty-eight.

Diann was born in Wall Lake, Iowa. She moved with her parents to Deloit, and began her education in the Denison Community Schools. She later moved to Harlan and graduated from the Harlan Community High School with the class of 1966.

After graduation, she worked in Harlan for a couple of years before continuing her education at a beauty school in Council Bluffs. After graduation, she returned to Harlan and opened a beauty shop there before returning to Denison where she opened a beauty shop.

Diann was united in marriage to Byron Hoffmeier, November 28, 1981 at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple settled in Denison where recently, she was employed as the manager of Godfathers Pizza and Reiney's Soda Fountain both in Denison.

She was a loving and caring mother and wife who adored her grandchildren, who meant everything to her. In her leisure time, she enjoyed fishing, especially at Silver Lake, near Lake Park, Iowa. She had an enduring affection for animals and was especially close to her dog, Chrissie and cats, Moe and Zoie. She enjoyed family events, cooking and baking, bingo and various wood crafts, including tole painting.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law, Ralph Hoffmeier; one brother, Clarence Schiernbeck Jr. and one sister, Joyce Whited. Survivors include: her husband, Byron of Denison; three sons, Jeff Hoffmeier and his wife, Suzanne of Kansas City, Kansas; Jason Botos and his wife, Holly of Atlantic, Iowa; Jeremy Botos and his wife, Katie of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Lori Waner and her husband, Vince of Warrensburg, Missouri; two brothers, Richard Schiernbeck of Westside; and Vernon Schiernbeck and his wife, Carol of Adair; and one sister, Janice Soll of Denison; and a half-sister, Darlene Hast also of Denison.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me," and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus." Vocalist Eldon Hardekopf sang the hymn "The Old Rugged Cross." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Barry Blackman, Marlene Bendon, Carol Ransom, Sally Carstens, Marie Blackman, Carolyn Nelson, and Marge Powell. Those serving as pallbearers were Vernon Schiernbeck Jr., Randy Hagge, Mike Hagge, Andrew Hoffmeier, Terry Soll, and Brian Soll. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
