Mary Ann Hansen was born June 11, 1931, the daughter of James and Bertha Beard Baber. She died Saturday morning, June 16, 2007, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of seventy-six.

Mary Ann was born in Dunlap, Iowa and brought up in Dow City. She received her education in the Dow City Community School. After completing her education, she helped her family at home. September 11, 1947, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Chris Hansen Jr. The couple settled on a farm near Denison and were blessed with the birth of five children. They later moved to a farm near Manilla and subsequently purchased a farm near Denison. After their retirement they moved to Dow City.

In her leisure time, Mary Ann enjoyed embroidery, cooking and baking, and occupied much of her time in her flower and vegetable gardens. She liked to socialize with her family and friends at a friendly game of cards, dominoes and especially the excitement of Bingo. Family games saw her happiest. In earlier years, Mary enjoyed attending the Bluegrass Music Festivals in Avoca and Missouri Valley, where she would spend the entire day. Also, traveling, camping and fishing were among the interests she enjoyed with Chris in addition to square dancing. A couple of notable locations the couple enjoyed was Nelsons Park and Lake Okoboji. In later years, Mary enjoyed game shows on TV as an enjoyable pastime as well as a longtime and avid bird figurine collector.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Roger and Michael; three brothers, Dick and Lloyd as infants, and Tom Baber and one sister Myrtle Malone. Survivors include her husband, Chris of Denison; two sons, James and his wife, Sandy of Boone, Iowa; John, "Butch" of Denison; one daughter, Rosemary Hansen Denison; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Dennis Huebner officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Christy Derksen and Michael Durham singing "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Honorary pallbearers were Elmer and Audrey Kienast, Audrey Petersen, Scott Patchin and Greg Patchin. Those serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Petersen, Charles Beam, Casey Campbell, Ace Ettleman, Eddie Green, Steve Todd and Monte Lapel. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
