Marlene Wiebers, age 70 of Denison, died early Monday at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison with burial at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where a Parish Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Wiebers of Denison; 12 children, Jeff Wiebers of Lakeville, Minnesota, Rollie Wiebers, Doug Wiebers, Kris Rowedder and Dave Wiebers, all of Denison, Steve Wiebers of Papillion, Nebraska, Jon Wiebers of Spirit Lake, Leesa Kinzer of Denison, Carol VonTersch of Altoona, and Karla Wiebers, Amy Cose and Rod Wiebers, all of Waukee; 28 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five brothers and two sisters, Jerome Henkenius of Arcadia, Janet Werts of Fountain Valley, California, Vern Henkenius of Carroll, Richard Henkenius of Omaha, Nebraska, Jean Elliott of St. Louis, Missouri, Dennis Henkenius of Omaha, and Bill Henkenius of Urbandale.

4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 11th Street and 2nd Avenue South, Denison, Iowa. Parish Vigil Service, 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the church.

Marlene Wiebers was born at Arcadia, Iowa, October 3, 1936, the daughter of Louis L. and Louise Taphorn Henkenius. She was raised at Arcadia where she was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. John’s Catholic Church and was graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1954. On May 14, 1955, Marlene was united in marriage with Gordon Wiebers at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia, Iowa. They made their home in Denison where their union was blessed with twelve children, Jeff, Rollie, Doug, Kris, David, Steve, Jon, Leesa, Carol, Karla, Amy and Rod. Marlene’s married life was spent as a devoted homemaker, lovingly caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. For several years she was employed part-time at what is now Norelius Community Library and assisted her husband in the office during his construction career. She was happiest when surrounded by her family. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, working crossword puzzles, playing cards with friends and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting games and events. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where she was active in St. Rose Ladies Guild, assisting with funeral lunches, assisted with St. Rose Bingo, served as a Eucharistic Minister and helped deliver “Meals on Wheels”. Other organizations she enjoyed through the years include her card clubs and Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Surrounded by her loving family, Marlene died early Monday, May 28, 2007, at her home in Denison. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 70 years, 7 months and 25 days. Including her parents, Louis and Louise Henkenius, Marlene was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Ann Henkenius, daughter-in-law, Tammy Wiebers and her father and mother-in-law, Ray and Christine Wiebers. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband of over 52 years, Gordon Wiebers of Denison, twelve children and spouses, Jeff and Lori Wiebers, Lakeville, Minnesota; Rollie and Marcy Wiebers, Doug and Paula Wiebers, Kris and Marc Rowedder and Dave and Sarah Wiebers all of Denison; Steve Wiebers of Papillion, Nebraska; Jon and Pam Wiebers of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Leesa and Scott Kinzer of Denison; Carol and Tom VonTersch of Altoona, Iowa; Karla Wiebers, Amy and Jeff Cose and Rod and Joy Wiebers all of Waukee, Iowa; 28 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters, Jerome and Norma Henkenius of Arcadia, Iowa; Janet Werts of Fountain Valley, California; Vern and Kathie Henkenius of Carroll, Iowa; Richard and Cheryl Henkenius of Omaha, Nebraska; Jean and Mark Elliott of St. Louis, Missouri; Dennis and Cathy Henkenius of Omaha, Nebraska; and Bill and Cheryl Henkenius of Urbandale, Iowa; brother-in-law, Merlin Wiebers, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, sister-in-law, Wanda Erps and husband, Bob of Arcadia, Iowa; other relatives and friends. A Parish Vigil Service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa, with Father Andrew W. Hoffmann serving as Leader. Special music for the Vigil included a recorded selection, “I Can Only Imagine”. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2007, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison, Iowa, with Father Andrew W. Hoffmann as Celebrant and Father Paul J. Kelly con-celebrating. Others participating in the Mass included Christian Symbol Placers, Gordon and the children; Servers, Lexi and Sean Houston; Lectors, David and Rod Wiebers; Gift Bearers, Kyle Wiebers, Paige Kinzer, Sydney Kinzer and Grant VonTersch; and Eucharistic Ministers, Dorothy Leinen and Dorothy Mendlik. Ministry in music was provided by St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing “Here I Am Lord”, “You Are Mine”, “On This Day, Oh Beautiful Mother” and “On Eagles Wings” with Jean Cornelius as accompanist. Honorary Pallbearers included Maxine Buchanan, Eileen Heiden, Lois Houston, Denise Watje, Shirley Meyer, Gladys Ahart, Evonne Weber and Georgena Knott. Pallbearers were grandsons, Eric Weibers, Derek Lambert, Chad Wiebers, Daren Lambert, Scott Rowedder, Neal Wiebers and Aaron Rowedder. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone to join them at the St. Rose Parish Center for fellowship and lunch prepared and served by St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild assisted by Our Savior Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was entrusted to care for Marlene and her family.
