Katherine Woolston Green (98) of Jacksonville, Florida, was born and lived in Denison until 1927. She had one sister, Fanny Woolston Strasser of Buffalo, New York. She was the daughter of Frank and Alberta Fullick Woolston. Frank was the son of Fanny Baker Woolston and William H. Woolston and brother of Kate Woolston McKim.

Katherine's mother was the daughter of George Fullick and Elizabeth Garnet Fullick also of Denison. Katherine's grandparents, George Fullick and Elizabeth Garnet Fullick had five children, Alberta (Mrs. Frank Woolston), Elizabeth (Lizzie) (Mrs. F.R. Marshall), Fanny Fullick, George Fullick, and Alice (Mrs. R.A. Romans) all of Denison. Katherine's parents were married in the home of her sister, Mrs. R.A. Romans in 1895.

Katherine's father moved to Denison in 1875. By profession he was a farmer and civil engineer. He served his community by his participation in his fields of training. He was involved in laying out the first paved streets in Denison.

Some Woolston family friends were the Garrison family, the E.C. Chamberlin family, the Lillard family, the Plimpton family and the Sibbert family. Raymond Sibbert and Katherine remained friends until his death.

Katherine was a graduate of Denison High School (1923) and later attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She later accepted a job with Culver Military Academy in Indiana. It was there she met Stanton Green, who would become her husband. Due to Mr. Green's health they moved to Florida, where they put down permanent roots in Jacksonville.

Katherine was a life long member of the Methodist Church. She joined First Methodist Church in Denison when she was just 7 years old and began singing in the choir at the age of 11. She continued to sing in her church choirs for 50 years and taught Sunday school until she was 90 years old. She was a brilliant Bible student.

For more than 80 years she was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, an organization of women devoted to furthering the education of women. She was the oldest living member of the Past Presidents Group at the time of her death. She was initiated into Chaper CO, her mother's chapter in Denison, in 1925. In 1949-1950 she served as President of the Florida State Chapter and served on the Executive Board of Florida from 1946-1951. She held every office on the sate level with the exception of recording secretary and corresponding secretary.

At 75, she was instrumental in starting a community program for older adults in Jacksonville, Florida whose aim was to encourage older adults to remain both physically and mentally active. She served as Executive Director. The program remains active and continues to grow.

Katherine leaves to forever cherish her memory her loving daughter Elizabeth (Betty) Young and her husband Charles A. Young of Jacksonville, Florida, a granddaughter, Sherrie Lins and her husband, Cmdr. James Lins (Oak Harbor, WA), 2 great-granddaughters, Katherine Lins ( 8 yrs.) and Madeline Lins (6 yrs.), a grandson, Edward N. Anderson of Charlotte, NC, a nephew, E.C. Strasser (Buffalo, NY), and cousins, Mrs. James (Pam) Phelps (daughter of Charlene Auracher Smith) of Colorado Springs, CO and Warren Romans (grandson of Alice Romans) of Williamsburg, VA.

Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Stanton Green and her son, Robert Green.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11:00 am at Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Alberta K. Ervin, First United Methodist Church officiating.
