Allen E. Mason was born December 26, 1929, the son of Clifford and Jessie Peters Mason. He died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Twilight Acres Care Center in Wall Lake, Iowa at the age of seventy-seven.

Allen was born in Lake View, Iowa and grew up on a farm north of Westside. He received his education in the Westside Community Schools and graduated from high school with the class of 1949. In 1958, he settled in Westside where he was a partner in the family business, Mason's of Westside, Inc, and worked there until he retired in 1993. After retirement, he remained in Westside until moving to Arcadia. In December 2005, he moved to the Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. Some of the enjoyable ways he socialized and became acquainted with new friends was by selling products such as Archer Oil, Watkins, Amway and Amsoil. He enjoyed traveling and driving around the country and enjoying the landscape.

Allen was a member of the United Church in Westside, a member of more than fifty years of the Masonic Order, and was Past Master. He was a member of more than fifty years in the Order of Eastern Star and a Past Worthy Patron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David; one sister, Carol Bundt and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Bundt. Survivors include one brother, Robert and his wife, Marlene of Westside; one sister, Janet Bartels and her husband, Lonny of Urbandale, Iowa and his sister-in-law, LuEtta Mason of Westside; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at United Church in Westside, Iowa. Pastor Virginia Stiles officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Westside Cemetery in Westside. Organist Janine Kock provided accompaniment for soloist Glenn Detterman as he sang "In the Garden," and "Life's Railway to Heaven." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Eric Gore, Chip Thiedeman, and Karl North. Those serving as pallbearers were David Heuton, Jerry Bundt, Darin Mason, Brett Bartles, Bruce Mason, and Keith Bundt. Monday services included a Masonic Service held at 7 p.m., at the Huebner Funeral Home in Westside. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the United Church Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Westside was in charge of the arrangements.
