Leone A. Gehring was born June 10, 1916, the daughter of Adolph and Amanda Stockfleth Jochims. She died at the Denison Care Center, Denison, Iowa, on March 25, 2007, at the age of ninety years,

Leone was born in Morgan Township, Schleswig, Iowa, and attended rural school near her home. She was a member of the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church of Schleswig and later of Zion Lutheran Church of Denison.

After completing her education, Leone worked at home until her marriage. On April 11, 1933, she was united in marriage to William Gehring at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Denison by Rev. Wm. Frese.

The couple lived with her husband's family until 1939 when they settled on a farm in Goodrich Township. They were blessed with the birth of two children. In 1943, the family purchased a farm northwest of Denison where they remained until moving to town in 1983.

Leone was fond of gardening, playing cards, and visiting with friends. She liked spending time at the Senior Center. In earlier years she and William often went to movies at the Ritz and enjoyed dancing on Friday nights at the Old Colombia Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Hilda Lafrentz, Sadie Ernst, and Lorraine Preul; two brothers, Clarence Jochims and Harvey Jochims; and one grandson, William Joseph Gehring. Survivors include: one daughter, Maxine Boeck and her husband, Gaylord, of Schleswig; one son, William and his wife, Charlene, of Denison; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Johnson and her husband, Roy, of Schleswig; two brothers, Arlo Jochims and Glenn Jochims, both of Carroll; one brother-in-law, Ardelbert Preul of Denison; one sister-in-law, Darlene Gehring of Ida Grove; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Organist Jeanette Venzke provided accompaniment for soloist Larry Boeck as he sang "On Eagle's Wings," and for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art," and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives." Those serving as pallbearers were Terry Gehring, Roger Walde, Mike Watje, Dennis Hansen, Lonnie Dalton, and Allan Preul. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
