Lillian Anna Reetz was born on November 10, 1917, the daughter of Louis and Melinda Krayenhagen Retman. She died Sunday, December 24, 2006 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-nine.

Lillian was born on a farm near Buck Grove, Iowa and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ April 7, 1918 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed there March 25, 1934. After completing her education, she helped her family and worked as needed in the neighboring area.

On December 24, 1940, Lillian was united in marriage to Raymond Edward Reetz in Denison. The couple settled on a farm near Westside and were blessed with the birth of one daughter. Together, they farmed near Westside for several years before moving to Charter Oak where they continued farming. In 1982, the couple retired and moved first to Wall Lake before settling in Denison in 1987.

In her leisure time, Lillian enjoyed gardening, socializing with family and friends at a game of cards, canning dill pickles, sewing and raising chickens. She was most happy enjoying her family and especially, spoiling her grandchildren with kindness and chocolate covered cherries. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who was very proud of her family. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, May 4, 2006, her son-in-law, Charles and two sisters, Selma Dersien and Ella Wingrove. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Newman of Denison; six grandchildren: Vicki Dentlinger and husband, Dan of Coon Rapids; Charles Newman and wife, Beth of Hastings, Iowa; Debra Pijanowski and husband, Dan of Randolf, Iowa; Terri Kramer and husband, James of Carroll, Iowa; Patricia Downey and husband, Robert of Ida Grove, Iowa; and Sandy Sayer of Lake City, Iowa; twenty-one great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Mae Kremin and her husband, Howard of Dow City, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Kelli Dentlinger as she sang, "On Eagle's Wings," and for the congregational hymns, "Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful," and "Just As I Am, Without One Plea." Those serving as pallbearers were: Timothy Dentlinger, Timothy Kramer, Tyler Renze, Jeremie Kramer, Justin Kramer, Brian Sayer, and Amanda Pijanowski. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
