Emil Claus Bielfeldt was born May 30, 1919 the son of John F. and Adelheid Pautsch Bielfeldt. He died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-seven.

Emil was born in Hanover Township, Charter Oak. He was baptized in Christ on June 8, 1919 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township by Rev. Runge and later confirmed on March 25, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Frese. He received his education in rural schools in Hanover Township and graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1937.

On October 11, 1942, Emil was united in marriage to Vernette Clausen at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak by Rev. W.P.A. Schroeder. The couple made their home on a farm near Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of three children. They farmed in the Charter Oak area for forty-five years, moving to town in 1981 and subsequently moving to Denison in 2001.

Emil was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, where he served as an usher, an elder for three years and Vice President and President, each for four years. He was active with promoting FFA and 4-H, and was a 4-H Leader for many years. He helped with organizing the Charter Oak Achievement Days. Served as Farm Bureau Director and Township Clerk for thirty-one years and Town Council for three years. Emil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed collecting all kinds of steins and playing games with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Ben Bielfeldt and his parents-in-law, Vernon and Augusta Clausen. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Vernette of Denison; three daughters, Jan Henningsen and her husband, Robert of Denison; Lana Henningsen and her husband, Ron of Denison; Jeanine Brocious and her husband, Tom of Sherwood, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Jess and her husband, Hans of Battle Creek; Ruby Sass and her husband, LeRoy of Loveland, Colorado; Fern Held and her husband, Clarence (Shorty) of Hinton; one brother, Glen Bielfeldt and his wife, Phyllis of Perry; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bielfeldt of Denison; brother-in-law, Paul Clausen and his wife, Darlene of Denison; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Richard Merrill officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at St. Paul's Cemetery in Charter Oak. Art Beeck was the organist accompanying the congregation for the hymns, "How Great Thou Art," and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Eldon Hardekopf sang the solo selection, "On Eagle's Wings." Honorary pallbearers were Stephanie Henningsen, Jamie Henningson, Courtney Brocious, Brandi Thompson, Beth Henningsen, Megan Brocious, Amber Mart, and Kelly Dyer. Pallbearers were Clayton Henningsen, Jeffery Henningsen, Dean Henningsen, Brent Henningsen, Warner Thompson, Chris Brocious, Sean Brocious, Nathan Mart, and Walter Dyer. After the committal service the family invited everyone back to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
