Dorothy Angeline Buck, daughter of Samuel H. and Nellie Harden Buck, was born on a farm near Afton, Iowa on May 15, 1908 and died Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-eight.

In 1918 she moved with her parents to Vail, where she has since lived. At the age of 13 she joined the Vail Presbyterian Church and has been a faithful member. She taught Sunday School for 40 years and was Superintendent of the Primary Classes for 20 years.

She graduated from the Vail Public School in 1926. She was one of the organizers of the Vail Alumni Association and worked many years to keep it going. Dorothy taught in the Elementary Public Schools before her retirement in 1970. She taught a total of 43 years; starting in a one room rural school and later in Vail.

After her retirement she continued with her hobby of sending cards to residents in 9 nursing homes, shut-ins and a prisoner in the State Penitentiary. She enjoyed the outdoors and spent a great deal of time with her flowers and vegetable gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Nell Buck, one sister, Lois Wulf and four brothers, Robert who died in his infancy, Raymond, Keith and Wayne. She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and her church family.

Funeral services were held for Dorothy at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2006 at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail. Reverend Kevin Freese officiated the service and grave side rites. Ruth Noelck was the organist for the congregational hymn, "Count Your Blessings" and Glen Freese sang the solo selections, "The Lost Chord" and "Beyond the Sunset." Burial was at the Vail City Cemetery with Arlo Buck, Michael Monroe, K.R. Buck, Mike Ruch, John Brockelsby, and Chad Brockelsby acting as pallbearers. After the committal service the family invited everyone back to the church for a luncheon served by the United Presbyterian Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
