Marlowe Arland Schultz was born December 6, 1943, the son of Arthur and Meleta Miller Schultz. He died Thursday, December 7, 2006 in Schleswig, Iowa at the age of sixty-three.

Marlowe was born in Battle Creek, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at his home December 21, 1943 by Rev. Wagner, and was confirmed March 30, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township by Rev. Leedahl. He received his education at St. Paul Lutheran School in Hanover Township, Morgan No. 7 country school, and the Schleswig High School, graduating with the class of 1963. After graduation, Marlowe entered the United States National Guard, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class E-4. He was honorably discharged from service on February 24, 1969.

On April 15, 1967 Marlowe was united in marriage to Diana Hanneman at United Church of Christ in Schleswig by Rev. Ratzlaff, and were blessed with the birth of two children. Marlowe worked from 1964 to 1970 in various management roles with J.I. Case Company in Carroll, Spencer, Algona, Fairmont, Minnesota and New Ulm, Minnesota. In 1970, he returned home to join his father-in-law, Bruce in the family farming business, later forming B.H. & M.S. Farms, Ltd. in 1980.

He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending as much time with his family as possible. He was very proud of them and looked forward to attending his grandchildren's events and other family gatherings. In addition to farming, which he loved very much, Marlowe enjoyed woodworking. He was involved with various card clubs and was a past member of the Schleswig Enterprise Board, and served on the Board of Directors of Farmers Mutual Insurance in Schleswig. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig where he served several years as a church Elder.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; and his brother, Lloyd. He is survived by his wife, Diana of Schleswig; his son, Todd and his wife, Kris of Schleswig; and his daughter, Stacy Olson and her husband, David of Blair, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Spencer and Payton Schultz of Schleswig, and Aidan and Chase Olson of Blair; his mother, Meleta Schultz of Denison; his mother and father-in-law, Bruce and Alvera Hanneman of Schleswig; one sister-in-law, Carol Schultz of Spirit Lake, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Reverend Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight was the organist and accompanied the congregation for the hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "The Lord's Prayer," and "Lift High the Cross." Pallbearers were Kevin Clausen, Mark Janssen, Mark Beeck, Derick Bruhn, Mike Beeck, and Alan Weiss. After the committal service everyone was invited by the family back to the church where a lunch was served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.
