Linda Sue Rickers was born January 12, 1942, the daughter of Lowell and Verna Mae Vergith. She died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of sixty-four.

Linda was born at Vail, Iowa and was baptized in the Vail Presbyterian Church. She received her education at the Vail Community School and graduated from the Ar-We-Va High School with the class of 1959. She was the captain of the girl's basketball team in her senior year, and she was named to the Omaha World-Herald's All Southwest Iowa team. She received a basketball scholarship and continued her education at a business school in Omaha.

On November 8, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert Rickers at the Vail Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Vail, and were blessed with the birth of three children.

Linda loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, watching sporting events, gardening, cooking and was an accomplished cake maker. She also enjoyed stock car racing and working at the Crawford County Speedway concession stand, until health forced her to retire. Linda was strong willed, but tender, and a generous lady to those around her. She was a hard working farm wife who enjoyed her family and farm life. She was a member of the Vail United Presbyterian Church, the Crawford County Historical Society and the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Verna Mae Vergith, many other beloved ancestors, and several farm cats. Survivors include her husband, Robert of Vail; two sons, Terry Rickers and his wife, Cathy of Newton; Lynn Rickers and his wife, Darla of Vail; one daughter, Christy Rickers of Vail; four grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Rachel and Ahren; three sisters, Lorna Fellom and her husband, Don of Emmett, Idaho; Pam Olson of Arvada, Colorado; Lanie Berger and her husband, Dr. Paul, Jr. of Sioux City; one brother, Laird Vergith of Lago Vista, Texas; her beloved dog, Baxter; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at the Huebner Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2006. Reverend Kevin Freese officiated the services. Inurnment was at the Vail Cemetery. "Amazing Grace" and "The God of Love My Shepherd Is" were recorded by Rachel Rickers and "Precious Lord Take My Hand" was recorded by Terry Rickers. Honorary pallbearers were Christy Rickers, Rachel Rickers, Cathy Rickers, Cody Rickers, Ahren Rickers, Darla Rickers, Kyle Rickers, and Baxter. Pallbearers were Terry Rickers and Lynn Rickers. The family invited everyone to return to Cronk's Restaurant for fellowship and lunch after the committal service. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of services.
