Viola A. Kapfer, 93, of Broomfield, Colo., and formerly of Denison, died Sept. 23, 2006. She was born on April 18, 1913, in Portsmouth, Iowa to Hans and Emma (Dohrmann) Martens. Viola graduated from Shelby (Iowa) Public Schools and attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska.
In 1934 she was married to Joseph Kapfer in Detroit, Michigan. Their union was blessed with four children. In 1948, they moved to Denison, Iowa, where they operated several businesses, including the Ho-Hum Motel, until their retirement in 1971, when they moved to Broomfield. Viola was an active member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church where she attended weekly Bible classes. She also was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, twin sons Dr. Philip and Rev. Richard Kapfer, her parents and one sister, Olga Wolff.
Survivors include a daughter Janice (Alan) Lange of Broomfield; a son Mark (Becky) Kapfer of Bettendorf, Iowa; daughters-in-law Dr. Miriam Kapfer of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Lois Kapfer of Ames, Iowa; eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren; sisters Velma and Elsie Martens of Valley, Nebraska; Ellen (Melvin) Blumer of Persia, Iowa; Jane (Elven) Steenbock of Persia; a brother Alvin (Dorothy) Martens of Minden, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
