Elonore Louise Meggers was born December 7, 1915, the daughter of George C. And Matilda Schultz Hargens. She died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa at the age of ninety.

Elonore was born on a farm in Crawford County, near Ricketts, Iowa and received her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School, Hanover Township, Charter Oak and a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ, January 16, 1916 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and later confirmed there on July 23, 1933. After completing her education she kept house and cared for a senior lady until her marriage to Peter J. Meggers on January 29, 1941. The couple made their home on a farm in Willow Township, later moving to a farm in Otto Creek Township and then to Hanover Township where they lived until 1969 at which time they retired and moved to Charter Oak. Peter passed away on February 14, 1976.

On August 22, 1978, Elonore was then married to John F. Meggers at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison by Rev. Jack Heck. The couple continued to live in Charter Oak. After John's death on May 29, 1998, Elonore remained in Charter Oak until moving to the Manilla Manor on October 1, 2002 due to health reasons.

Elonore was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She was a beautiful seamstress who enjoyed sewing and mending for family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, quilting and making lap robes at church. Caring for her flowers, lawn and garden were also among her favorites. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing Bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; her husband, John; one sister, Dorothea Henkel; five brothers, Walter Nemitz, Ernest Nemitz, William Nemitz, Alvin Hargens and Louie Hargens Sr. Survivors include one sister, Esther Turner and her husband, Belton of Sun City, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Dena Nemitz of Denison; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. On Friday, October 13, 2006 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Abide With Me". Those serving as pallbearers were: Roger Hargens, George Hargens, Vernon Nemitz, Dean Hargens, Louis Hargens, Jack Hargens, Glen Henkel, Bob Hargens, Bill Hargens and Dale Henkel. A Prayer Service was held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
