Catherine Pauline Dahleen was born September 25, 1910, the daughter of William and Stephania Streit Simons on a farm near Odebolt, Iowa. She died Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-six.

She was baptized as an infant, attended Odebolt Schools and grew to womanhood on a farm near Odebolt. Following schooling she did domestic work for others in the Odebolt area.

She was married to Henry A. Dahleen on January 23, 1930 at Denison, Iowa. They made their home on farms in the Denison, Schleswig and Kiron areas, retiring from farming in 1965 and moved to Denison. After moving to Denison, Catherine was employed at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and helped her husband, Henry, as custodian at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Catherine was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1953 and was a member of the Denison Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 8 Auxiliary of Denison. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, dancing, fishing and traveling.

Catherine is survived by the following children: Elaine Reimer of Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico; Edward Dahleen and his wife, Darlyne of Denison; Fanchon Neubauer of Newton; Cheryl Schillerberg and her husband, Alan of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; and Larry Dahleen and his wife, Marcia of Monticello, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Simons of Arion and Luella Dahleen of Knoxville, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jim Gillespie and his wife, Marilyn of Lake City; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Those preceding her in death were her husband, Henry in 1993; a granddaughter, Linda Walde; her daughter-in-law, Louise Dahleen; her son-in-law, Virgil Neubauer; her brothers, John, Paul, William and Clarence Simons; sisters, Helen Plain, Alice Gillespie and half-sister, Laura Bedel.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. OnSaturday, October 7, 2006 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Beautiful Savior" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Other service music played was "How Great Thou Art". Honorary pallbearers were Paul Schillerberg and Steven Walde. Pallbearers were: Matthew Schillerberg, Gregory Woods, Dean Neubauer, Alan Neubauer, Bruce Dahleen and Troy Dahleen. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
