Robert (Bob) Carritt was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 27, 1932, the son of Joe and Clara Neubaum Carritt. He died October 3, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 74.

Bob was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa on January 21, 1951. He attended various country schools in Iowa and graduated from Ute High School in 1950.

On October 6, 1951, he married Elaine Knutzen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. The couple made their home in Fairmont, Minnesota until February of 1952, when Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. Stationed in San Francisco, he served honorably in the United States Navy from 1952 - 1956 and was a veteran of the Korean War.

After the Navy, Bob worked several different jobs in several small western Iowa towns (Ute, Odebolt, Mapleton) until finally settling down in Denison in 1962. The majority of his working life was spent in the lumber business and trucking business. Trucking was his second love, after his wife, and between truck driving and travels with Elaine, he managed to travel to all 50 of the United States. He retired in the late 90's, but continued to drive truck on a part-time basis until May, 2006.

Bob enjoyed taking trips to various states with their friends, Warren and Betty Hawn. He liked to spoil his grandchildren and was a loving and devoted father. Before becoming an avid golfer, he enjoyed bowling for many years and loved to read. Bob had a strong Christian faith and was a very active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church since 1970.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Clara Carritt; and his brother, Dick Carritt. Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Denison; sons, Mark of Chugiak, Alaska; Scott and his wife, Becky of Denison; daughter Lori Wiebers and her husband, Jeff of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren, Nathan, Josh and Alyssa Carritt; and Megan, Cara and Neal Wiebers; sisters, Roma Schimmer of Carroll, Iowa; Nancy Scott and her husband, Roger of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, Larry Carritt and his wife, Carol of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Laren Knutzen of Ute, Iowa, sister-in-law, Lois Knutzen of Omaha, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Organist Mary Kuhlmann provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Great Is The Lord" and "On Eagle's Wings". Other service music played was "Wherever You Are". Honorary pallbearers were: Megan Wiebers, Nathan Carritt, Cara Wiebers, Alyssa Carritt, Neal Wiebers and Josh Carritt. Those serving as pallbearers were: Todd Schimmer, Jake Ahrenholtz, Steven Knutzen, Kevin Carritt, Byron Meeves and Kyle Wiese. A Prayer Service was held at 6:30 p.m., Friday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
