Clarice J. Hansen, 73, of Waterloo, formerly of Charter Oak, died Friday, August 25 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids of a stroke.

She was on September 9, 1932 in Shelby County, Defiance, the daughter of Theodore and Clara Kenkel. She married Fred Hansen on October 11, 1958 in Manilla.

Mrs. Hansen graduated from Defiance High School in 1951. She was a certified nurses aide and had worked at Freemans Cafe for many years. She also worked at Blessed Sacrament Church and Allen Hospital.

Survivors include her husband Fred; two sons, David and Steven, both of Waterloo; a daughter Clara Hansen of Waterloo; three brothers, Ray and Theodore Kenkel, both of Council Bluffs and Joe Kenkel of West Point, Nebraska; and four sisters, Velma Pedersen and Jo Ann Kuehnhold, both of Denison, Theresa Scheuring of Defiance and Leona Moran of Honey Creek.

She was preceded in death by her father Theodore Kenkel; her mother Clara Eckerman; a brother, Mark Kenkel; a sister, Marie Bueltel of Manning; three brothers-in-law, Austin Scheuring of Defiance, Henry Frees of Denison and Les Pedersen of Denison; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kenkel of Council Bluffs and Bernadine Kenkel of Manilla.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. On Friday, September 1, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament, where friends called from 11 a.m. Until services. Memorials may be directed to the family.
